My bets for upcoming Apple Event

Its clear that there’s some new toys coming from Apple soon, and its a safe bet it will all come in September. Apple traditionally refreshes the iPod range in September, it has promised the world Snow Leopard, the next generation of OS X in September and there are rumours of a refresh to the iMac range including the addition of Blue-Ray to the mix. These rumours have supporting rumours of the upcoming incarnation of iTunes in iTunes 9. The buzz of the web at the moment is that the update will include Blue-Ray and iPhone App placement editing. While guessing what Steve Jobs has up his sleeve is hit and miss at best but iTunes 9 is a safe bet seeing as Snow Leopard will include QuickTime 10 so it stands to reason that would bring with it new iTunes along with Snow Leopard. Lets not forget iPhone OS 3.1 which chatter tells us will bring Agmented Reality apps to the iPhone.
So September is going to be an interesting month. I will be watching out for the Media to be invited to maybe a Town Hall event. Im betting the 3rd week in September with actual realise of hardware goods and disks needing delivering starting in the last week of the month. iTunes 9 could well be available to download the day of the announcement. But like i say, its hit and miss.

Also, on the side closer to miss than hit most probably is the chance of a mac tablet / iPod Touch Pro / Apple Netbook release.

I was just trawling through the online news feeds on the iPhone (yes I’m a geek and the ladies love it!) and saw this video on Augmented Reality Apps. Within seconds of the video starting (and i point out it was very out of focus and blurry) I recognised the spot in Amsterdam, its right by the Market i love so much and the supermarket I shop at when I’m over there visiting. If that’s not a sign i need to get back over there then don’t know what else is.

Monkey Island SE for iPhone

It is here! The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition has landed in the AppStore today.
I got up for a meeting and as has become my habbit over the last week or so, I checked to see if TSoMI:SE was there.
Today it was!
As I said I had a meeting today so havnt had time to get into any sword play yet but I have to say, wow!!!
This is a beautiful remake of the clasic game. It feels the same! It’s great!
I know I am not doing justice to my vocabulary here but I am just rather excited. This was the first game I actually stuck with as a kid and completed. And without the walk through whatsoever.
The art work is beautifuly sexy and the music is fantastic but best of all is the voice over of the origional dialouge. It just all fits and feels right.
The early AppStore reviews seem to agree (with the exception of the normal fools who neglect to restarting their iPhone after the install). Some people don’t enjoy the controls as much as I have been but with the exception of a slight bug which stops me double clicking to talk to someone rather than walk to them I think it works very smoothly indeed. The way you scroll anywhere on screen to move the curser solves the problem of fat thumbs missing the right pixel and there is pinch to zoom so that small items can be clicked with ease.
Anoter fantastic factoid is that you have the ability to swap to the origional game with much loved dodgy graphics and tinky tonky music.
I love this game. I can not state that enough. For anyone who loves a good point and click, likes to laugh or just enjoys a good story, check this out.
